To lessen the affects of the new Michigan Business Tax, ABC went to work at the State Capitol seeking relief for not only our membership but for the entire construction industry.
When the tax took effect in January, the Department of Treasury said construction related firms were prohibited from deducting the purchase of materials from their tax liability. This issue is substantial for construction! ABC’s Government Affairs team lead the fight to cut taxes by convincing the legislature and governor to allow contractors to deduct the purchase of materials from their taxes.
After months of hard work, ABC was on hand at the State Capitol shortly after midnight just before the Fourth of July when final passage of ABC backed legislation was sent to the governor’s desk for enactment and later signed into law.
For many construction firms this can mean a reduction in their Michigan Business Tax liability by as much as 50%!
